2025 HKU100 Scholars
05JUN2025 Professor Laibao Liu (Assistant Professor, Department of Geography) has been confirmed as an HKU-100 Scholar, as announced by the Faculty of Social Sciences (HKU Social Sciences School News, June 2025). His research on climate change, carbon neutrality (carbon sinks/sources), CO₂ removal technologies (BECCS, Ocean Alkalinity Enhancement, Enhanced Weathering on Land), and earth system modelling directly addresses China’s net-zero commitments. 2023 HKU100 Scholars
05OCT2023 Professor Yuyu Zhou (Professor, Department of Geography) joined HKU in June 2023 (from Iowa State University) (LinkedIn), and research acknowledging the “HKU-100 Scholars Fund” has been published with his group, indicating he is an HKU100 recruit (Ecological Indicators, May 2024 — acknowledging “University of Hong Kong HKU-100 Scholars Fund”). He was elected a 2023 AAAS Fellow shortly after joining HKU and is named in both the 2024 and 2025 Clarivate HCR lists.


2022 HKU100 Scholars
05OCT2022 Professor Zhenci Xu (Associate Professor, Department of Geography): The HKU-100 Scholars Fund is acknowledged in published research associated with his group (Ecological Indicators, May 2024), indicating affiliation with the HKU100 programme. He received the HKU Outstanding Young Researcher Award (OYRA) 2023–2024 for his development of the Blue Carbon Development Index (BCDI), published in Nature Communications (HKU Geography announcement, December 2024).
