Cardiff University's Visit to our Department

A delegation from the School of Geography and Planning at the Cardiff University headed by Dr Julian Brigstocke and Dr Andrew Williams visited the Department on 6 March 2018 as part of their one week-long field trip to Hong Kong. Dr J.X. Qian from the Department delivered a guest lecture on cultural geography. Their students also met with our student representatives from the Geographical, Geological & Archaeological Society in a guided tour. Dr M. Bennett, Dr J.J. Zhang and Dr P. Zhu also joined the fruitful academic exchange.

  • Congratulations to Junxi for winning the Area Prize awarded by the Royal Geographical Society. This prize was for the best article in the journal Area by a new researcher. Well done, Junxi!
  • Congratulations to Jinbao for winning a joint National R&D Grant (國家重點研發計劃項目) with the National Climate Centre (國家氣候中心) of RMB21.5 million on “Extreme climate change and its mechanisms in East Asian monsoon region since the Little Ice Age” (小冰期以来东亚季风区极端气候变化及机制研究)! The research grant for Jinbao’s module (历史时期气候集成重建与极端气候变化规律研究)is worth RMB5.28 million (HK$6.5 million). Hearty congratulations, Jinbao!
