Prof. Liang received his Ph.D. degree from Boston University, USA.  He is an emrtitus Professor at the Department of Geographical Sciences, University of Maryland, USA. He has published over 550 SCI-indexed  journal papers,   and published 11 books, five of which were translated in Chinese. According to Google Scholar, his H-index=115, and total citation is over 55,000. He is a Highly Cited Researcher  by Clarivate. He is a Fellow of the IEEE, the AAAS and the ISDE (China), the Editor-in-Chief of the nine-volume books entitled “Comprehensive Remote Sensing” (Elsevier, 2017, 2025), and an Editor-in-Chief of Science of Remote Sensing. He has developed the high-level satellite products for multiple space agencies, such as NASA and NOAA. Particularly, he has led to develop the Global LAnd Surface Satellite (GLASS) products suite, freely available at www.glass.hku.hk, and the high-resolution GLASS (Hi-GLASS) products suite, which  have been extensively used worldwide.
