Abstract:
This lecture reflects on the foundational principles that define the “soul” of geography. It examines geography through four interrelated perspectives: integrated essence, the interplay of space and process, systems thinking, and social application. By highlighting how these dimensions shape geographical inquiry, the lecture explores how geographical knowledge can inform policies and strategies that support regional and global sustainable development. Drawing on decades of experience in geographical research and teaching, the speaker offers reflections intended to inspire students, researchers, and practitioners engaged in advancing the discipline.
