Abstract:

The COVID-19 pandemic exemplifies the importance of public health communication during the public health crisis. While social media’s impact becomes influential, the influence of traditional media on public opinion remains undeniably critical. In this presentation, Prof. Koh will share the details of his research project on the media reports on the COVID-19 vaccines during the pandemic in the Republic of Korea using Latent Dirichlet allocation (LDA) topic modelling. LDA topic modelling is a machine learning technique that analyzes underlying topics and their affinities from unstructured text data. This study showcases how data-driven methods can help people better understand the legacy media's roles in shaping public discourse.
