On January 16, 2025, the Faculty of Social Science and Department of Geography hosted a Taster Seminar, attended by more than 30 international participants from India, China, Thailand, and Singapore. Professor Nicky Lam introduced HKU's Geography department, setting the tone for the event. A captivating Geographic Information Systems (GIS) tour and demonstration followed, led by Professor Hongsheng Zhang and Professor Yanjia Cao, and our PhD student Jeffrey CHANG, providing a comprehensive understanding of the subject. The seminar culminated with a visit to the Soils & Biogeography Laboratory, facilitated by Professor Lishan RAN and Dr. Yougli Zhou. Here, participants observed various demonstrations, adding practical knowledge to their theoretical understanding. The event was a resounding success, offering a rich and in-depth exposure to HKU's Geography department.
