Date: 04 NOV 2026 (Wednesday)

Time: 10:30–12:00 (HKT)

Venue: CLL, Department of Geography, 10/F, The Jockey Club Tower, Centennial Campus, HKU

Abstract:

Can museums change the world for the better? In this talk, Royal Ontario Museum’s (ROM) inaugural curator of climate change Soren Brothers will dive into some of the original aquatic research he's carrying out through the museum role, and show how it has helped shape new ways of thinking and acting towards the climate crisis.

Dr. Soren Brothers

Allan and Helaine Shiff Curator of Climate Change, Royal Ontario Museum

Dr. Soren Brothers is the Senior Curator of Climate Change at the Royal Ontario Museum, and an Assistant Professor (status-only) at the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at the University of Toronto. Soren’s research examines the effects of climate change on inland waters, including how changes in aquatic systems can influence their greenhouse gas emissions to the atmosphere. As a climate change curator, his work spans research, exhibition development, gallery work, public programming, and collections care, bridging natural, cultural, and artistic lenses through which the climate crisis and its solutions can be understood and communicated.
