2022-23: GEOG3207 - Grace Youth Camp

The field trip to Anderson Road Quarry and Ma On Shan Iron Mine was organized on 14th October, 2022. The GEOG3207 teaching assistant Jeffrey Chang designed and guided the tour for students to conduct in-depth field research related to Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) issues. The potential environmental and social impacts raised by the proposed urban development plans in existing/previous green belt areas over Ma On Shan Tsuen and along Anderson Road were reviewed. The generic land development processes in Hong Kong was discussed, and students are taken to Grace Youth Camp (鞍山探索館) and several sites in Ma On Shan Country Park to explore the cultural heritage assoicated with old iron mine, fruitful discussion were carried out in the field study. Students also investigated how the voice from community and public participation may influence the decisions on urban planning and EIA processes in Hong Kong.
