A field visit to urban river revitalization in Hong Kong on 8 October 2022 helped students to consolidate their knowledge of ecosystem services and sustainable society – as taught by Professor Wendy Chen, and to reflect on the challenges and opportunities of urban river restoration in Hong Kong.

The field trip includes two sites: Jordan Valley Channel and Tai Wai Nullah. Our students first made observations along the upper and lower sides of the Jordan Valley Channel. They completed research forms to identify and assess ecosystem services in urban river/channel ecosystems. Then, an underlying urban river revitalization work-Tai Wai Nullah has also been investigated to compare ecosystem services provided by these two urban rivers.
