Professor Shuo WANG
Associate Professor, The Department of Land Surveying and Geospatial Science (LSGS), Faculty of Construction and Environment, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University
Shuo Wang leads the Hydroclimate Extremes Lab at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, where his research examines droughts, floods, heatwaves and compound climate hazards and their impacts on ecosystems, agriculture and society. Combining geospatial technologies, Earth system modelling and artificial intelligence, he develops approaches to climate adaptation that support resilient cities and sustainable development. His research has appeared in leading journals including Nature Climate Change, Nature Communications, Nature Food and Nature Plants, with his flash drought research recognized among the top 1% of highly cited papers in geosciences. He received the 2023 Tianhe Star Award for contributions to extreme weather and climate research and has been appointed Associate Editor of Water Resources Research and Journal of Hydrology. His findings have attracted international attention from outlets including Scientific American and the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction.
