Geological-1: A Hyperspectral Remote Sensing Satellite for the Geological and Mining Industry

Date: 22 SEP 2026 (Tuesday)

Time: 15:00–16:00 (HKT)

Venue: Social Sciences Chamber, 11/F, The Jockey Club Tower, Centennial Campus, HKU

Abstract:

Geology-1, China's first hyperspectral remote sensing satellite for the geological and mining industry, was successfully launched on 17 May 2025. Since entering orbit, it has travelled approximately 2.9 billion kilometres, acquired over 900 tracks of imaging data and collected over 6.5 TB of data, serving more than 200 organisations nationwide. It has been selected as one of the "2025 China Mining Top Ten News", "2025 Annual Top Ten Scientific and Technological Achievements in Hubei" and "2025 Top Ten Events in the Remote Sensing Field", and has won a gold medal at the Geneva International Invention Exhibition. This report will present the engineering innovations of the satellite, its in-orbit performance and its applications in the fields of geology and mining.
