Prof. Elvan Cobb
Assistant Professor, Department of History, HKBU
Elvan is a historian of the built environment, focusing on the histories of place in the Ottoman Empire and the modern Middle East. In her work, Elvan juxtaposes histories of space with histories of technology, archaeology, tourism, and the senses. Her recently published monograph, Infrastructured Landscapes: Spatial Histories of Early Ottoman Railways, investigates how spatial practices were altered with the advent of railways in western Anatolia during the second half of the 19th century.
