Map Library, Room 10.10, 10th Floor The Jockey Club Tower, Centennial Campus, HKU

About the Speaker:

Dr Jon Olsen is a Research Associate in the Neighbourhoods and Communities Programme of the MRC/CSO Social and Public Health Sciences Unit, University of Glasgow, UK. As a Geographer, Jon’s research interests are in Epidemiology, Spatial Analysis, and the Built/Natural Environment.

Abstract:

Existing literature typically uses a fixed ‘neighbourhood' as the unit of analysis - assuming that people conduct their lives within that spatially defined unit. This seminar will describe mobility and environmental exposure across an entire urban landscape, examining whether access to facilities within the home neighbourhood is indicative of use. The results from a UK GPS study of 100 children and a large European study of 63,554 people from 66 cities in 28 countries will be described.
